Hey Sailor Boy! is a love song from one girl pirate to her sailor boy. Originally written by Alice for fictional band The Girl Pirates (whose extended membership included unwittingly comedian David Cross
and Decemberists singer Colin Meloy); the band never got much further than one drunken rum soaked practice before "Hey Sailor Boy!" was packed away.

The song took on a new lease of life with Cosines, with a stomping piano riff, soulful beat and sweet strings (arranged and performed by Elefant Record's A Little Orchestra); comparisons could be made to the classic pop of Camera Obscura, The Beach Boys, The Concretes and The Magnetic Fields.

Whereas Hey Sailor Boy! displays Cosines' pop tendencies, live favourite The Answer shows the bands other, more motorik side, where noisy guitars duel with droning synths, topped with reverb laden vocals. For fans of Veronica Falls, Stereolab and Electrelane.

"a charming song with echoes of Allo Darlin' & Camera Obscura, and proof that you can indeed make a non-sexual song about booty-calls"
Metaphorical Beat

"Hey Sailor Boy! sets off as a northern soul stomper before adding lovely strings and flirty lyrics. And they have produced not one, but two catchy efforts, as a b-side The Answer is also pretty darn good, albeit more in a Stereolab synth krautrock styleeee"
